McDermott 145th at NCAA Div. III Championships

Dan McDermott finished the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships course in Waverly, Iowa in a personal best time of 25:44 to finish in 145th - roughly the top half of the field.

McDermott, who improved all season long as a member of the Loras lineup, tackled the course for the third time this season. On October 9, he was Loras' fourth place runner in 27:26 at the Dan Huston race. At the NCAA Regional meet on November 13, he was Loras' top finisher in 25:51. The Duhawks were seventh as a team in each of those two races and McDermott squeezed in a first place run at the Dr. Tucker Invite and a top ten finish at the Iowa Conference meet between the first two Waverly runs.

As an individual qualifier following the regional meet, McDermott posted his 25:44 on November 20. McDermott was the fifth best runner from the IIAC at this year's national meet.

"It can be a difficult thing to run as an individual in a meet of that caliber," head coach Bob Schultz said. "But Dan showed me a lot on Saturday and ran a good race. He has a lot to be proud of, including this (P.R.)."
