A pair of Loras College volleyball players have been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for their efforts in 2010.

Sophomore Brittney Westermeyer and Senior Kate Russell earned All-Central Region honors last week and Russell added an Honorable Mention All-American on Tuesday.

Russell was a two-time All-IIAC First Team selection and the 2010 Iowa Conference MVP for the Duhawks - who went 26-9 this season and 7-1 in the IIAC on their way to their second title. Russell, who completes her NCAA volleyball career after two seasons with the Duhawks and one at Xavier University, tallied 404 kills, 390 digs, 108 blocks, and 29 aces this season.

Westermeyer, a sophomore in 2010, is now a two-time All-IIAC First Team performer after two seasons with the Duhawks. She garnered Honorable Mention recognition this season from the AVCA. She was second on the team in kills (305) and blocks (90 - 19 solo) behind Russell.

Both hit .300 or better for the season.
