McDermott qualifies for Nationals

Loras 7th of 26 teams, NCAA Central Region Meet

The Loras College men's cross country team finished in seventh place at the NCAA Division III Central Region Cross Country Meet on Saturday. Dan McDermott was the lone Duhawk to reach the finish line in under 26 minutes.

McDermott, a junior from Cedar Rapids, Iowa finished in ninth place in a time of 25:51.

As one of the top seven finishers on a non-advancing team McDermott earned an at large individual spot for next weekend's Division III National Championships meet. The meet will once again be held at Wartburg College and begin at 11:00 AM in Waverly, Iowa.

After McDermott, the Duhawks placed four runners in the 26 minute time slot. Austin Steil was second (26:13), Chris Higgins was third (26-22), Jerry Olp was fourth (26:30) and Tom Henders was fifth (26:58). Ryan Engelman was sixth and Ted Wittman seventh for Loras.
On Monday, McDermott, Austin Steil, and Chris Higgins were each named to the All-Central Region Team after finishing among the top 35 in Saturday's race.
