The Loras College women's soccer team completed their unbeaten run through the Iowa Conference on Saturday afternoon with a convincing 8-0 win over Buena Vista.
Loras celebrated the careers of five seniors at halftime of the win. Kelly Murphy, Lisa Waltz, Katie Chambers, Lisa Smith, and Hillary Reed were each recognized for their contributions to the program.
Before the halftime ceremonies, the Duhawks posted five goals on the scoreboard. Jaclyn Tumberger netted the first two, her third and fourth of the season, on assists by Ali Schmitt in the 14th and 23rd minutes. Madeline Tennant also scored her fourth of the year on a Jayne Eslinger assist in the 26th minute. Kate Young added her team high eleventh goal of the season when Tonya Lohmeyer sprung her on a breakaway late in the first half. Lynn Devriese notched her much anticipated first goal of her Loras career just seconds before the intermission from short range after receiving a Tennant pass and working into position in front of the Beavers' goal.
After the halftime ceremonies, Rosie Roe quickly found the back of the net in the 51st minute. Devriese also quickly returned to the scoring column in the 59th.
Senior Kelly Murphy then converted the first goal of her Loras career in the 75th minute when Brittan Rooney setup Murphy on the doorstep. Murphy cleverly turned to free up a shooting lane and closed the scoring on Senior Day.
Katie Chambers and Rachael Stieber combined for the shutout.
The #5 Duhawks closed the regular season with an impressive 18-1 overall record and earned an opening round bye with the sixth Iowa Conference title in program history after going 8-0 in 2010. Loras will host the semifinal and final rounds of the tournament on November 5-6 in the Rock Bowl.
Loras went 9-0 in the Rock Bowl during the regular season and will take an 11 game winning streak into next weekend's tournament. They outscored their IIAC foes 27-3.
