Duhawks 2nd at IIAC Championships

The Loras College men's cross country team finished in second place at the 2010 Iowa Conference Championships on Saturday after coming within four points of the title.

The Duhawks placed three runners in the top ten and four in the top 15 an averaged a team time of 26:40 on their way to their runner-up finish.

Freshman Jerry Olp once again led the Duhawks to the finish line, crossing in fourth place overall in 26:14. Austin Steil wasn't far behind in ninth place - reaching the finish line in 26:31. Dan McDermott was just two seconds behind Steil in tenth place. Chris Higgins also earned All Iowa Conference honors by finishing 14th, reaching the line in 26:43. Ted Wittman ran a 27:18 to close the varsity scoring for the Duhawks.

Ryan Engleman was sixth for Loras in 27:19 and Tom Henders seventh with a 27:25.

The Duhawks' team score of 61 was four points behind champion Luther's 57. Cornell was third with a team score of 77 and individual champion Andrew Tobben finishing in 25:52.
