Loras 4th of 9 teams

The Loras College women's golf team sits in fourth place heading into the final two rounds of the 2010 Iowa Conference Championships. The first two rounds were played at Pheasant Ridge in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The tournament concludes with rounds three and four at Centennial Oaks in Waverly, Iowa this Friday and Saturday.

Every member of the youthful Duhawk squad (all freshmen and sophomores) scored in the eighties on October 1 in Round 1. Sophomore Abby Potts carded a second round 79 to move up to seventh place at the halfway point.

"It was our best weekend of the season by far," head coach Jeremy Hawkins said at the conclusion of rounds one and two.

"We had decent weather and the girls took the opportunity and played to their potential."

Megan Gregg posted two rounds in the eighties and is tied for fourteenth place. Kathryn Belanger is in the top 20 after rounds of 86 and 93. Christina Jackson and Shayna Siegert are 27th and 35th, respectively.

The Duhawks (700) are 12 strokes behind Luther (688) for third place. Central (658) is four strokes behind Wartburg (654) for the league's top spot. Coe College (716) trails the Duhawks by 16 strokes in fifth place, followed closely by Buena Vista's 717.

"I'm anxious to see how we perform next weekend," Hawkins added.

Round three begins at 10:00 AM this morning. The Duhawks are in the second set of tee times.
