The Loras College soccer team dropped their first game of 2010 on Wednesday night in Rock Island, Illinois 1-0 to the Augustana Vikings.

The game-winning goal came just shy of the hour mark when Jessica Dodds found herself open on the back post and headed in the game's only goal.

The loss marked the first time this season the Duhawks were kept off of the scoreboard.

"It was tough to walk away with the loss, but Augustana is a quality team that has shown they can both shut teams out and also put some (goals) away," head coach Dan Rothert said after the game.

"Both teams spent a lot of time in the middle of the field trying to build up a quality scoring chance, and they were able to convert the goal they needed for the win on a corner (kick) and made it hold up. We'll learn from it and get ready for Luther on Saturday."

The Vikings held a slim 10-9 shot advantage and Kayla Radloff made the five saves she needed to earn the team's seventh shutout.

Three Duhawks (Kate Young, Jessica Kern, and Jayne Eslinger) registered two shots in the loss, and Katie Chambers made three saves.

Loras will host Luther College in the Rock Bowl at 3:30 PM on Saturday to open Iowa Conference play. The two teams tied 0-0 a year ago in Decorah, and the Norse went on to win the regular season title.
