The Simpson College Storm sent the Duhawks back into the loss column with a 14-7 win in Indianola, Iowa on Saturday. Each time the Duhawks kicked the ball off on Saturday, the Storm put together drives of over 50 yards to reach the end zone.

Simpson scored on the game's opening drive after a solid kick return and was capped off by a six yard touchdown run. On the Storm's third possession of the game the Duhawks were able to turn the momentum when Frank Pereiro knocked the ball loose from Michael Chia. Kyle Kirchoff fell on the ball at the Simpson 23 yard line to setup the short field for the Loras offense.

Three straight Matt Hillard rushes proved to be enough to even the score at 7-7. Hillard's touchdown was his fifth of the season. He's scored at least once in each of his first three games as a Duhawk.

The Storm answered quickly with a 12-play, 67-yard drive over the next five minutes to reclaim the lead at 14-7. Chia earned the six points on a one yard run.

The Duhawks had two more chances on offense in the first half, but both came to abrupt ends when Vaughn Gesing threw interceptions on the fifth and sixth plays of the drives.

Things didn't go much better in the second half. Loras did put together two drives of nine plays, including the game's final drive over the final 1:08 - but never reached the end zone. Four second half drives ended in punts and another ended in a fumble after consecutive sacks on Gesing.

The Duhawks were -1 in turnovers on the day - with Kirchoff and Mike Wuertzer recovering fumbles for Loras. They gained a total of 221 yards of offense on the day to Simpson's 330. The Storm earned the advantage in time of possession 33 minutes to 27.

Gesing finished the day 13-for-27 for 169 yards. He was sacked six more times, bringing the total this season to 16 through three games. Ryan Baez ran for 45 yards and Hillard a total of 30. John Ingersoll and Nick Merlino each caught three passes.

Loras remains on the road next week when they play in Waverly, Iowa against the Wartburg College Knights (3-0, 1-0). Kickoff is 1:00 PM. You can listen to the game locally in Dubuque on AM-1490 WDBQ.
