Loras 4th of 25

The National Catholic Invitational in South Bend has been a regular stop on the Loras College fall cross country schedule for some time now, and the Duhawks once again placed in the top five in 2010.

This time around Loras posted a fourth place finish in the non-Division I category (which includes NCAA Division II, III, and NAIA schools). They were eleventh overall in the 35-team field that included a total of 285 runners.

Freshman Jerry Olp was 10th among the 204 runners in the non-Division I group and has led Loras to the finish line in each of his first two college races. The Wheaton, Illinois native and Benet Academy graduate finished the course in 26:13 on Friday. Following closely behind Olp were junior Dan McDermott (26:30), sophomore Austin Steil ((26:42) and sophomore Chris Higgins (26:59).

Additional Duhawks finishing under the 28-minute mark were Ted Wittman (27:19), Dain Leytem (27:22), Jimmy Connelly (27:24), Ryan Engelman (27:33), Tom Henders (27:45), and Mike Bukszar (27:47).

Loras will next take to the course on September 25 in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Roy Griak Invitational.
