The Loras College football team is up to 1-1 on the young season after their road win over Rockford College on Saturday. The Duhawks held a steady 31-7 lead halfway through the final quarter on their way to the 31-21 victory.

Tyler Wilker opened the scoring with his first field goal in a Loras College uniform from 37 yards on the end of the game's opening 49-yard drive.

After a three-and-out by the Regents offense, John Ingersoll added his second touchdown of 2010 when he caught a 15-yard pass from Vaughn Gesing.

The Loras defense obliged with a second straight three-and-out and gave the ball back the offense. This time the Duhawks needed less than two minutes to extend the lead to 17-0. Gesing threw for 19 yards to start the drive and Matt Hillard ran for 16 on his way to a 3-yard touchdown run.

All told, the Duhawks' defense forced the Rockford offense off the field with seven consecutive three-and-outs in the first half and recorded three sacks. The Duhawks outgained the home team 215 yards to 3 after 30 minutes of action.

The Regents did score three second half touchdowns, and were within 10 points late in the third and early in the fourth quarters. Their final score essentially came as time expired.

Matt Hillard responded with two more touchdown runs of four and nine yards, while Ryan Baez racked up 116 yards on the ground on 23 carries. Hillard finished the day with 56 yards on 12 carries.

Frank Pereiro registered two sacks backing up Rockford quarterback Tyler Baran for a total of 12 yards. Aaron Strong and Brandon Ronan also brought down Baran and Nick Lloyd added an interception.

"We did a lot of things better than we did (against Elmhurst)," head coach Steve Osterberger said following the game.

"We've also have to continue to improve in other areas. It is so important for us to continue to improve week-to-week, never being completely satisfied with our performance and challenging each other every day" Osterberger added.

Loras will head to Indianola, Iowa on Saturday for their third game of the season and second of three straight road games. The Duhawks (1-1) and Storm (0-2) will kickoff at 1:00 PM. Simpson has lost their first two contests to Bethel and St. Olaf.

Locally, the game can be heard on Newstalk 1490 WDBQ beginning with the Best Western Midway Pre-Game show at 12:30.
