Loras sweeps IIAC opener

The Loras College volleyball team, fresh off their 3-1 start to 2010 in Winona, Minnesota, opened the Iowa Conference and home portions of the schedule with a convincing win over Luther College.

The Duhawks swept the Norse 25-16, 25-13, 25-12 en route to their first win in the Iowa Conference in 2010. Kate Russell led the Duhawks with 12 kills and was followd by Regan Riley's 7. Julie Rogers led the way with 19 assists and added five digs and two aces.

The Norse held an early lead in set number one, but once the Duhawks tied the score in the teens there was no looking back. Loras maintained control of the match, holding the Norse to a .020 hitting percentage. Luther added seven service errors to slow their offense down.

Kaity Frost added nine assists and a team high 10 digs to the Loras statistical line.

Loras next takes to the court this weekend in the River City Classic hosted by the University of Dubuque. Loras will play at 4:00 and 6:00 pm on Friday as well as noon and 2:00 pm on Saturday before returning to Iowa Conference action on the 15th of September against Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.
