The Loras College men's soccer team opened their 2009 season with a road win over the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees on Tuesday evening with goals by Donald St. George and Miguel Bonilla. St. George opened the scoring in the 24th minute for Loras, who was credited with six shots on goal over the 90 minute match. Bonilla added an insurance goal (on a St. George assist) in the 53rd to extend the lead to 2-0.
Goalkeepers Adam Kelsch and Dan Wickman each recorded saves for the Duhawks en route to the win. Kelsch, the Duhawks opening day starter between the pipes, made four saves, and Wickman cleaned up with one save to preserve the first clean sheet of 2009.
Loras returns to action on the road this Saturday night when they take on UW-Whitewater in Whitewater, Wisconsin. The men will play their first home game of 2009 in the Rock Bowl on September 9 when they host the UW-Platteville Pioneers.
