Maybe it wasn't the best start to their first game of 2010 that Loras College men's soccer team could have displayed on Wednesday night, but it was definitely the end result they were hoping for. After conceding the game's opening goal following a short St. Ambrose free kick, the #7 Duhawks regrouped during the intermission to post three second-half goals en route to their first win of 2010.

Jared Winking opened the scoring for the Bees in the 11th minute when Kendrick Tyson's free kick from near the end line was left free in front of the Loras goal. But that was one of just three shots on goal the visitors would manage against Loras' defense.

Six minutes into the second half Matt Lamale whipped a cross in that Miguel Bonilla sent back towards the near post for Donald St. George to bury. And then the Duhawks really found their rhythm offensively. More pressure in the 55th minute by Brad Joiner led to a foul on the doorstep by St. Ambrose's defense and a free look for Miguel Bonilla from the penalty spot. Bonilla didn't waste any more time putting his name in the goal scoring column and giving the Duhawks their first lead of 2010. In the 77th minute, a corner kick by Chris Comstock made its way to the back post where defender Malcolm Calbert headed home the insurance goal - the first of his career.

The hotly contested annual matchup between Loras and St. Ambrose featured 32 fouls and four yellow cards - all in pursuit of the Bishop's Cup - the traveling trophy awarded to the victor of the Archdiocese of Dubuque derby.

Loras will head to Minnesota for a pair of Labor Day weekend matches against St. Thomas and Macalester before returning to the Rock Bowl for another Wednesday night tilt next week.
