On Thursday, Loras College cross country and track and field standout Mary Bridget Corken was named to the 2010 CoSida ESPN The Magazine Academic All District Team for her work in the classroom this year. The Dubuque, Iowa native and Sociology and History double major carried a 3.8 GPA during her time with the Duhawks and was named to the second team. The award crosses multiple NCAA Divisions and includes NAIA student-athletes as well.

This year, Corken was an All-American during the indoor season in the Mile. She also qualified for the 1500 Meter Run during last weekend's NCAA Division III Championships where she finished 11th. Corken leaves the Duhawks holding a handful of school records and one of the most decorated runners in the program's history.

During her four years of eligibility, Corken was an Iowa Conference champion cross country runner and All-American in 2008. She was also a two-time All-American during the track seasons. She earned All-Iowa Conference status multiple times and was also an All-Region performer. This year, she was named Loras College's Female Athlete of the Year.

"Mary Bridget personified the student-athlete," head coach Bob Schultz said Thursday. "She is the type of young person that is committed to everything in her life whether it be school, running or work.  She has been a tremendous role model for all of her teammates and I can't think of anyone more deserving of such an award."
