Loras (+99) 1251 - 5th of 9

The Loras College men's golf team finished fifth at last weekend's Iowa Conference Championships.

Weekend number one was spent at Finkbine Golf Club in Iowa City, where the Duhawks left in fifth place. Senior Mark Dolphin was tied for fourth after the first weekend after rebounding from an opening round 80 to post a 1-under 71 on Saturday. Every Duhawk who competed the opening weekend posted one round in the 70's and one in the 80's amidst the mostly wet conditions. Junior Andy Schroeder was the only Duhawks to shoot in the 70's in the opening round with a 78. Round two was the lowest round for the team, a 301.

Weekend two shifted the action to Centennial Oaks in Waverly, where the Duhawks held their fifth place spot in the standings. Dolphin posted Loras' low round with a 75 in round three, followed closely by Sam Herrmann's 76. Schroeder provided the only final round in the 70's when he carded a 75. Dolphin's final round 84 pushed him back to tied for sixth, and he was tenth after the tiebreakers were calculated.

Loras was firmly planted in fifth for the majority of the tournament. They finished a full 14 strokes behind Wartburg and 21 strokes ahead of Simpson. Dolphin finished in the top ten for the third time in his four trips to the IIAC Championships. As a freshman he was eighth, and a year ago as a junior he was fourth. Steve Stark also competed in the Championships in each of the past four seasons, finishing 30th this season and a personal-best 21st in 2008.
