After a handful of stops, including an extended and successful stay at Fresno State, John Baxter (Loras College Class of 1985) has been named the Associate Head Coach and Special Teams Coordinator for the Trojans.
In 1981 John Baxter arrived on the campus of Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa ready to learn and grow. He did so during the early years of Loras head coach Bob Bierie's tenure, as the Duhawks returned to intercollegiate competition after nearly a decade as a club sport. He was also a part of a coaching staff, led by Bierie, that won 34 games over five years.

Now Baxter will be a major part of Lane Kiffin's staff at the University of Southern California, a program Kiffin took over on January 12, 2010. Kiffin shared his thoughts in a statement to the USC community on Thursday.

"Hiring John Baxter is something that I thought could probably never happen, so this is a great day for USC," said Kiffin. "Having him here will be huge for our team on and off the field. He put together a 13-year run of special teams at Fresno State that were better than any in the country. We're very excited to welcome him to the Trojan Family."
