Norse spoil Senior Day, #2 seed Saturday

The Loras College men's basketball team dropped their regular season finale to the Luther College Norse in the AWC on Saturday, 76-68.

The Duhawks shot a respectable 46% from the field but the visitors, who were playing their season finale as the seventh place team in the league, went 30-of-58 from the field (51.7%), including 10-of-18 from long distance and seven three pointers in the first half. Luther took an 11-point lead into the halftime break after leading by as many as 14 in the opening 20 minutes.

The second half included a comeback by the Duhawks that reached its apex when a four-minute run turned a 10-point deficit into a one point lead. John Johann dropped in a couple of threes and Jason Abbuhl made a couple of short range shots during the stretch. The Norse reclaimed the lead with just under seven minutes to go and didn't give it back, making five of their next seven shots.

Seniors Alex Brant, Jason Abbuhl, and John Johann combined for 22 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists on the night.

The loss dropped the Duhawks to third in the IIAC standings at 10-6 and they wrapped up the regular season 15-10. Loras was picked to finished tied for sixth in the preseason coaches' poll. The team will host #6 Wartburg on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM in the AWC in the opening round of the Iowa Conference Tournament.
