The #19 Loras College Duhawks wrestling team headed to Decorah, on Friday, to take on the #12 Luther College Norse. The match decided the third-place team in the IIAC behind Wartburg and Coe. 

 

Loras was able to win the match, 27-12, in dominating fashion. The Duhawks rattled off 24 straight points in the first seven bouts to take a commanding lead. Loras finished the dual winning eight of 10 matches.

 

Rudy Johnson at 125 and Wilson Metellus at 133 were able to get the Duhawks started off right. Johnson recorded a, 7-4, decision over Nick Scheffert while Metellus won, 12-5, over Dakota Wangsness.

 

Matt Holmes, ranked ninth nationally at 141, was able to give Loras a tech fall in 5:28 moving the team score to 11-0. Holmes record is now 17-3 on the season.

 

At the 149 bout Joe Wood won, in overtime, 5-3 over Tristan Zurfluh to help build the Duhawk lead.

 

Steven DeWitt, ranked third nationally at 157, continued his winning ways with a major decision scored 23-9. He has now won 28 bouts this season compard to just four losses.

 

The Duhawks also received decisions from Billy Wood, Joe Butler, and James Buss to ensure the victory over the Norse. Three Duhawks were able to get to the 20 win plateau in the match. Johnson is now 20-10, Butler post a 20-19 record, and Buss is 20-2 this season.

 

The next competition for Loras will be the NCAA Division III central region championships on March 1 in the Five Flags Center in Dubuque. Loras is serving as the host of the event.
