The #28 ranked Duhawk wrestling team hosted cross town rival University of Dubuque on Friday. The match had huge implications for the Iowa Conference Championships this coming Friday with each team posting a 3-3 record in the IIAC. Loras was able to get the victory 29-15 over the Spartans setting up a rematch with Luther College.

 

Loras was able to win six of 10 matches to defeat the University of Dubuque Friday night in the AWC.

 

Wilson Mettelus was first on the scoreboard for the Duhawks at 133. Mettelus was able to get a 19-3 tech fall over Stephan Rosenburg.

 

Senior Matt Holmes at 141 recorded a, 4-1, decision over Brian Travis giving the Duhawks an, 8-3, lead after three bouts.

 

The Duhawks were then able to gain an edge with three straight victories from Steven DeWitt, Billy Wood, and Joe Butler. At 157, Dewitt dominated his opponent with a, 27-10, victory. Senior Billy Wood, at 165, was able to record a pin in just 54 seconds.

 

Loras' Joe Butler took the mat with a back and forth match, for the first two periods, against Derek Mizaur. Eventually, Butler was able to get a take down and a pin at 6:31 which erupted, the AWC, crowd.

 

Loras' run of 17 straight points helped secure the victory over the Spartans.

 

The final match featured James Buss and Dan Howell at 285. Buss was able to get a major decision on a 15-5 victory.

 

Loras will be on the road Friday, February 14th at Luther College. The match will be for 3rd place in the conference. Luther was able to win the first dual, 21-16, at the Iowa Conference Duals earlier this season.
