The Loras College Duhawks wrestling team hosted the IIAC Duals January 25th at the Athletic Wellness Center. The Duhawks faced three IIAC opponents going 1-2 on the day. Loras then competed a week later hosting the Duhawk Open in the Graber Sports Center. The Duhawks had eight wrestlers place on the day.


At the IIAC Duals Sophomore James Buss pinned all three opponents he faced improving his record 12-2 on the season at 285. Joseph Wood at 149 and Cody Flynn at 197 also had one pin on the day.


Junior Steven DeWitt recorded two major decisions improving his record to 20-3 at 157 on the season. Dearion Stokes also had a major decision in his match against Simpson, and Matt Holmes had a tech fall on his Simpson opponent.




At the Duhawk Open three Duhawks placed in the top three. Senior Matt Holmes at 141, Junior Joe Butler at 174, and Sophomore James Buss at 285 all placed top three. Holmes had two tech falls helping him place third in the meet. Butler had one tech fall and one major decision as he placed second, and Buss had three major decisions placing first at 285.


Loras is currently 7-10 on the season and will host the University of Dubuque on Friday, February 7th and then host St. John's University on Sunday, February 9th.




James Buss was named IIAC Wrestler of the Week thanks to his title at the Duhawk Open and overall record of 16-2 for the season. Buss, a sophomore heavyweight, went 4-0 to claim the title at the Duhawk Open on February 1. He posted major decisions over Coe's Kirk Owens (11-1), Wis.-Platteville's Kyle Andreae (11-1) and Wis.-La Crosse's Zach Tooley (10-2) before topping Iowa's Terrence Jean-Jacques, 5-1, in the final.
