Mon, Feb. 3, 2014 - [Women's Lacrosse]

"This will be a monumental season…" said Loras women's lacrosse coach Emily Goetz. The Duhawks head into their second year as a team and are only looking to improve. The Duhawks are entering their first season as a member of a conference. They will be a member of the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference.

The season begins on the road February 23rd against Augsburg. The first home game on the Rock Bowl will be against cross town rivals University of Dubuque on March 12th. Loras was 1-1 against the Spartans last season. The Duhawks will be heading west to take on teams in Oregon and Washington this April.

There will be a lot of turnaround for the team this year. They lost a total of ten team members including five seniors. Coach Goetz stated, "This year was a big rebuilding year and we are happy to have some great talent come in and girls who are really dedicated to this program and seeing it through."

Key returners Kaitlyn Kutsch and Karli Jonasen will provide some leadership for the Duhawks. Kutsch is coming off two major surgeries in the off season. Coach Goetz said, "She has taken on many roles for us through the midfield, attack and defense where her knowledge and athleticism helped her excel." Jonasen is "one to watch" this season and her work ethic is what stands out for the Duhawks.

Newcomers Claire Sheahan and Hailey Frederick will provide a spark defensively for the Duhawks. Sheahan will be in the goal and can be expected to make some big plays. Frederick has been tabbed as a leader for the Duhawk defense.

Coach Goetz had this to say to all the Duhawk fans, "We appreciate all the positive support and words of encouragement as we enter into this season. We strive every day to become better athletes and represent Loras with the highest level of character, class and integrity. This will be a monumental season with our first recruiting class, our first trip out west and our first year in conference. GO DUHAWKS!"
