The Loras College Duhawks wrestling team faced two IIAC opponents this week. On Wednesday, the Duhawks were able to win seven of 10 bouts to defeat Buena Vista, 30-11, inside the Graber Center. Loras then went on the road Thursday night to face the Central Dutch in Pella. The final score found the Duhawks on top with a 27-13 win. Loras was able to win six bouts against the Dutch to improve their record to 2-0 in IIAC competition.

 

Loras was able to get two pins against Buena Vista those coming from Junior Steven DeWitt and Sophomore James Buss. DeWitt improves his record to 16-2 at 157 and Buss goes to 9-1 at 285.

 

Loras was able to get a major decision from Cody Flynn while Matt Holmes was able to tech fall his opponent at 141. Dearion Stokes, Joe Butler, and Mathias Palmersheim each won their match by decision to help give the Duhawks the victory.

 

The Duhawks on Thursday, for the second night in a row, were able to improve their record against Central College. Freshman Johnny Gosinski was able to get a pin at the weight class of 141, giving him his fourth pin of the year. Pins from Steven DeWitt and Joe Butler also helped propel the Duhawks to victory.

 

Loras is now 6-7 (2-0) and will head to Mount Vernon, Iowa this weekend for the Matmen Invitiational. The team will them head to Wartburg College on January 21st to take on the #1 team in the country.
