Men dominate in IIAC home opener against Coe

The Loras men's basketball team showed that they were happy to finally be back home in the AWC last night. The Duhawks hosted the Kohawks of Coe College defeating Coe 94-65, making the Duhawks record 9-5 (2-1). This win puts the Duhawks tied for third place in IIAC standings.


The Duhawks led the entire game and led by as many as 35 in the second half. A 13-0 run by Loras late in the first half sparked their big 21 point halftime lead.


Loras was on fire from the field shooting 67.3% from the field while the Kohawks made only 40.4% of their shot attempts. The rebounding margin was tight with Loras winning the battle by only one, 26-25. Alex Cline for Loras led all players with six rebounds.


The Duhawks seem to be most successful when they are sharing the ball and getting contributions from everyone. Five players for the Duhawks were in double figures, and as a team Loras had 22 assists. Alex Cline and Mirko Grcic led the way with 13 points, both making 2-of-3 from behind the three point arc. Point guard Bobby Harmening was perfect from the field shooting 5-of-5 for the game. Ryan Coon and Dominique Criss round out the Loras players in double figures as both players contributed ten points in the game.


Coe had two players in double figures, Andrew Wirth scored 11 and JT Vonderhaar scored 10 with five rebounds.


Loras continues their short home stand Saturday, January 18th as they take on Central College in the Athletic and Wellness Center, tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
