#3 Duhawks bring in postseason awards
Mon, Dec. 23, 2013 - [Men's Soccer]

As the Duhawks built another Final Four team and #3 national ranking in 2013, they also garnered some individual postseason awards along the way. Among them were multiple All-Region and All-American selections.

At the conference level, Kevin Cavers headlines the list with his second consecutive nod as the league's top offensive player. Cavers' role in central midfield for the IIAC co-champion and IIAC Tournament champion Duhawks saw him score two goals and dish out eight assists. Both of his goals were game-winners and he leaves the program #2 all-time in assists (26).

Joining Cavers on the first team were defenders Erik Berkowitz and Dan Figura and goal-scoring threats Tom Fluegel and Johnny Rummelhart. On the All-IIAC Second Team were seniors Dylan Milkent and Tim van den Bergh. Mike Pizzello garnered enough votes for an Honorable Mention nod.

At the NSCAA North Region level, five Duhawks made the cut. That list includes first-team selections Kevin Cavers and Tom Fluegel. Figura and Rummelhart made the second team, and Erik Berkowitz was a third team pick.

The Duhawks also made a splash on the d3soccer.com All-American teams. Cavers was joined on the first team by central defender Dan Figura. Erik Berkowitz was also a third team selection. Figura also earned the website's National Defender of the Year award. As noted on the site, Figura anchored a Loras defense that held opponents to 3.7 shots-on-goal per game while boasting a .61 goals-against-average that led to a 19-2-3 record and a second straight trip to the Final Four. Over the last two seasons, Figura and the Loras defense have earned 29 shutouts on the way to a 44-4-4 record.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) also compiled their All-American team in December. Cavers was a third team selection on that list.
