Duhawks finish third at Pioneer Classic

RESULTS: Loras 3rd/13

 

The Loras College men's swimming team was in Grinnell, Iowa over the weekend to compete in Grinnell's Pioneer Classic. The team finished third overall in the team standings and won several events. 

 

Isaac Casey headlined Loras' efforts with wins in the 50 and 100 Yard Freestyle races. He set the meet record with his blazing quick 21.52 in the 50 and followed with a 47.93.

 

Matt Bogen also logged considerable points. He was third in the 500 Freestyle in 4:55.34 and second in the 1650 Freestyle in 17:10.56, ahead of teammate Michael Krol who was third.

 

Zach Benson added a bronze finish in the 200 Yard Breaststroke in 2:15.69.

 

John Maevski, who set Loras' 1-Meter 6- and 11-dive records earlier this year, was fourth and earned 19 team points with his 441.90 weekend score.

 

The Duhawks opened the event with a third place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. Casey, Benson, Lance Scallon, and Grant Duncan comprised that group, finishing in 1:29.17. They closed the event with another third place finish in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. Scallon, Casey, and Benson, were joined by Michael O'Toole in that race.  

 

Next up for the Duhawks is their annual training trip to Florida. They'll return to face conference rival Luther in San Jose Pool on January 4.
