Augustana escapes Loras push for another home win

The Loras men's basketball team faced #19 Augustana College on Wednesday just a week removed from their solid road win over UW-Eau Claire.  The Vikings pulled out a win, 67-65, after brief double digit leads in each half and Loras runs to overcome the vistitors' lead. 

 

The Duhawks got off to a slow start in the first half trailing 19-7, but managed to climb their way back before the end of the half to only be behind Augustana by five at halftime.  The Duhawks turned things around a bit when they were back within five again. Alex Cline then cut the lead to two after making a 3-pointer.  After two more free throws from the Vikings and a lay-up from Aaron Schueller, Loras trailed by two, 67-65 as the final buzzer sounded.

 

Bobby Harmening led the team with 13 points, going 3-for3 from behind the 3-point line. Alex Cline and Ryan Coon were both close behind with 12 and Aaron Schueller followed up with 10.  Cline and Mirko Grcic led the Duhawks in rebounds, each picking up five. 

 

Overall, the Duhawks shot 43% from the field, while Augustana shot 53%.  Loras was 10-for-12 from the free throw line while the Vikings made 14 of their 16 free throws, 87%, from the line.  Loras outscored the Vikings by three points in the second half.

 

Loras dropped to 3-3 overall with the loss and Augustana improved to 5-1 on the season. 

 

Loras will travel to Eureka College on December 19th and tip off at 6:30 PM.
