The Loras College men's basketball team stayed in the win column with a 71-63 victory over the Coe College Kohawks on Wednesday night in the AWC. Tim Kelly went 8-of-11 from the floor and scored a game high 19 points for the Duhawks. Jordan Harrelson and Connor Mooney each added 13.

A steady and effective first half in which the Duhawks shot 47% from the field set the tone for the opening 20 minutes. The Duhawks made five three pointers and kept the Kohawks at a safe distance and took a comfortable 14 point lead into halftime.

A turnover on the first possession of the second half by Loras sparked a 16-0 run by Coe to begin the final 20 minutes of basketball. Loras trailed 44-42 before finally making a bucket four and a half minutes into the period. They quickly built the lead back up to eight over the next five minutes and kept the visitors at a relatively safe distance down the stretch.

Loras controlled the glass and managed to maintain their 47% shooting in the second half to earn the win. The win completed the season sweep of the Kohawks by the Duhawks.

A loss by Cornell and a Central win have things heating up at the top of the IIAC standings. The 8-3 Duhawks travel to Storm Lake to take on the 7-4 Buena Vista Beavers on Saturday. The Beavers had Wednesday night off. The game is only available via the Buena Vista University website on Saturday and tipoff is set for a non-traditional 6:00 pm time slot.
