The Loras College volleyball team spent the weekend in the friendly confines of the Athletics & Wellness Center for the 2013 Loras College Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Duhawks split a pair of matches on both days, finishing the tournament 2-2.

The weekend started with a loss to #23 UW Stevens Point. The Pointers used six blocks, seven aces, and had two hitters reach double-digit kills in the 3-0 sweep. Tara Blake led the Duhawks with eight kills and Shawn Rielly managed 19 assists. Loras hit .165 while the Pointers hit .184 and put down 43 kills. Christina Angeli tied for the team high with nine digs and had Loras' only ace.

The Duhawks bounced back with a closely contested 3-1 victory over UW-River Falls. Each of the three sets the Duhawks won were decided by just two points. In the Falcons' win in Set 3, they controlled things with a steady 25-13 victory as the Duhawks took their foot off the gas.

The Duhawks took sets one and two in front of a boisterous student section in the night cap. The offense and defense were equally effective. Five players logged double-digit digs for Loras, led by Christa Winders' 21. Danielle Kennedy was a part of seven blocks. Tara Blake had a double-double (10 kills, 14 digs) and added a pair of aces. Kara Grant was tops on the kill list with 15 and hit .333 for the match.

On Saturday morning, the Duhawks started with a five-set loss to another WIAC school. The UW-Oshkosh Titans took sets one, four, and five to down the hosts. Kara Grant once again led the offense with 16 kills. She was joined in double digits by Blake and Danielle Kennedy (11 each). Shawn Rielly put up 46 assists, her most in a match over the weekend. Rielly added five aces.

Loras bounced back again in their afternoon match, this time winning a five-setter. Two sets needed extra points to determine a winner – Loras prevailed 28-26 in the second set to take a 2-0 lead and William Penn won Set #4 27-25 to force a fifth set. It was all Duhawks in the final frame, however, as the hosts dominated, winning 15-3. Tara Blake led three players with 10 or more kills with her 16. Liz Jendra added seven aces and Danielle Kennedy was a force at the net with three solo blocks and assisting on five others.

Shawn Rielly was Loras' representative on the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the event.

The 2-2 weekend puts the Duhawks at 11-13 ahead of Wednesday night's IIAC match in Storm Lake, Iowa against Buena Vista (16-9, 1-4 in IIAC).
