Duhawks down to sixth, Kohawks up in IIAC standings

The Loras College women's basketball team dropped their second straight home game on Wednesday night, 77-56 to the Coe College Kohawks.

The visitors led wire to wire, jumping out to an early lead and forcing the Duhawks to come back from a large deficit on their home floor. Loras couldn't get any closer than 16 points away from Coe on Wednesday, even though they shot a respectable 46% from the field in the second half.

Kayla Waskow and Kayla Lincoln combined to score 39 points and go 5-of-10 from long distance to pace the Kohawks. Loras' only player in double figures was freshmen center Melissa Herrmann, who scored 10 on 5-of-6 shooting. Four Duhawks had seven points and senior point guard Lisa Morrissey added eight. Herrmann added eight rebounds and a block to her line.

Part of the Loras comeback attempt would have required some sharp shooting behind the arc, but the Duhawks went just 3-of-13 on their three point attempts. Coe was +3 in the rebounding department and only turned it over ten times in the win.

Loras heads to Storm Lake to take on Buena Vista on Saturday. The Beavers had tonight off and sit at 6-5 in the IIAC. The game can be seen live online at the Buena Vista website. Tipoff is a slightly later 4:00 PM on Saturday.
