The Duhawks were in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday for their annual regular season tilt with the Knights and scored early and late to emerge victorious. The game-winner came 4:51 into overtime from the foot of Katie Truesdale. The first strike was just eight minutes into the game.
Loras was out of the gate quickly with three shots over the first seven minutes. In the eighth minute, Danielle Vujovic found Ailish Rispin for the game's first goal. The Duhawks held a healthy advantage in shots over the first 45 minutes before the Knights turned up their efforts for an equalizer in the second half.
Hannah Wilson made five second half saves before the tying goal for came for Wartburg on a high shot from Brittany Frush. Loras outshot the Knights 3-2 over the final 20 minutes but neither team converted.
In overtime, Loras avoided an early scare on a Wartburg corner kick before Vujovic put in motion the game's second goal with a pass in to spring Katie Truesdale. Truesdale ran past her mark and tucked the ball under Knights goalkeeper Katie Reinhart for the 2-1 win. The victory kept Loras atop the IIAC standings at 3-0.
Vujovic earned IIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for her multiple goals against Simpson in the previous game and her multiple assists against the Knights.
St. Mary's, 3
The Duhawks were in Winona, Minnesota on Wednesday evening to take on the St. Mary's Cardinals in non-conference action. Loras opened up a large lead over the first 25 minutes, scoring five times.
Truesdale picked up where she left off against Wartburg, scoring the game's first goal (her sixth), in the fifth minute. Lynn DeVriese, Danielle Vujovic, and Ailish Rispin all added goals over the next 17 minutes to make it 4-0 before Truesdale struck again in the 27th.
Truesdale, Rispin, Claire Murphy, and Kinsey Campbell (2) had assists during the early goal-scoring surge.
Shortly after the Duhawks went up 5-0, the Cardinals netted their first goal of the game, making it 5-1. The score line remained that way until the 76th minute, when the Cardinals struck again. Two minutes later, Kristen Eckert scored her first goal as a Duhawk to make it 6-2. St. Mary's added another late tally for a 6-3 final score.
Loras improved to 11-2-1 with the win. They are at Buena Vista (2-10-1, 0-3) on Saturday afternoon.
