Luther, 41

Loras, 7

The Loras College football team couldn't overcome the emotion of Luther College's Homecoming and centennial celebration or the Norse's rushing attack on Saturday and fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the Iowa Conference.

Luther held the ball for 11 minutes in the first quarter and set the tone for the game. They scored on their first drive and forced the Duhawks into three-and-outs on three of their first four possessions.

Loras held the ball for much of the second quarter but were unable to crack the scoreboard. Luther struck quickly twice in that same quarter, with a long run by Josh Vos and a blocked punt in the Loras end zone.

The hosts took a 21-0 lead into the second half and went back to the ground to open a 28-0 margin. They once again used their first possession of the half to reach the end zone. Loras moved the ball on their second possession of the second half but were forced to punt. The Norse answered with another scoring drive, this time through the air.

The Duhawks used a Luther turnover to reach the end zone with four minutes to play in the fourth quarter. Tim Mikeworth forced, and then fell on, a Luther fumble with the Norse backed up near their own end zone. Two plays later Dylan Jones connected with Brendan Oates for a short touchdown pass. The Norse ran out the remainder of the clock and reached the end zone once more with a score in the game's final minute.

Individually for the Duhawks, Mikeworth logged a total of 2.5 tackles for loss to go with his fumble recovery. Logan Kuehl led the team with 11 tackles. Nate Carrier ran for 61 yards on 17 carries. Jon Powers caught Dylan Jones' long pass of 30 yards. Jones and Thomas Rose each took had snaps at quarterback for Loras. The Duhawks managed 112 total yards on the day.

The Norse used their steady ground game, which accounted for 356 yards, to get into the win column.

Loras was missing Nate Even, Mike Canevello, and Tucker Brady due to injuries.

Next up for the Duhawks is their Homecoming game on Saturday at 1:00 PM. The #16 Coe College Kohawks (4-0) will be the guests.
