The Loras College women's golf team wrapped up the 2013 Iowa Conference Championship on Saturday with a pair of soggy rounds Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids. Loras finished with a three-round average of 381.

Three Duhawks played all four rounds of this year's tournament. Dana Matykiewicz and Mara Simonson each posted three rounds in the 80's and one in the 90's on their way to finishes in the top half of the leaderboard. Matykiewicz's 354 Loras' top score and was good for 14th place. Her second-round 85 was the Loras' best score of the tournament. Simonson was just two strokes behind with 356 – which was good for 16th place. Katie Lathrum was the other Duhawk who played all four rounds. She carded a 90 to start the tournament and finished in 32nd place with a 399.

Megan Kelchen played the final weekend in Cedar Rapids. Her two-day total was 265.

"Our cards say we would have been the sixth place team," head coach Lynsey Barnard said at the end of the tournament. "In that way, I don't think the eighth place spot (as a result of the opening round disqualification) reflects what our team has on the roster."

"Dana played her best golf of the year during this tournament, which is exactly what you want," Barnard added. "Her game really came together at the end of the season. This conference has a lot of talented players, so that says a lot for her."

Mara Simonson was 17th her freshman season and improved one spot this year in her tie for sixteenth.

"I think Mara has come a long way this fall and has put herself in position to be an all-conference contender the next couple years."

"This season was about improvement," Barnard said as she reflected on the 2013 fall season. "We became more of a team and are setting the foundation for the future of the program, which I think can be very successful."
