The Loras College men's cross country team won the team title at this weekend's Pre-Nationals meet in Indiana, scoring 66 points and placing all five scoring runners in the top 25. Saturday's race included 233 runners and 19 full teams. The Duhawks were 19 places ahead of second place Manchester.

Sam Whan was once again first to the finish line for Loras, but this time he was only a stride ahead of teammate Ty Wittman. Both Duhawks posted official times of 26:02. Steve Loran, Rob Howe, and JP Sevcik were the other three Loras runners to keep the team score under 70.  Loran was 13th, Howe was 17th, and Sevcik was 21st – with 20 seconds separating Loran from Sevcik. Ryan Sheeran and Kyle Wagner were each among the top 50 runners.

Following the race, head coach Bob Schultz was happy with what he saw.

"I'm really proud of how we raced today," Schultz said.

"We wanted to make a statement," he added. "We didn't get much recognition in the regional or national polls the last two weeks and felt a bit slighted."

Loras entered the weekend 6th in the Central Region poll and receiving votes in the national poll (essentially 37th). Among the top-35 schools at the Hanover event were #12 Wabash, #18 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and #32 Manchester.

Next up for the Duhawks is the annual Dr. Tucker Invitational at the Dubuque Soccer Complex on October 18. The event is set to start at 4:30 PM.
