The Loras College women's cross country team placed fifth at this weekend's Pre-Nationals meet in Indiana, scoring 168 points and placing two runners in the top 10. Saturday's race included 228 runners and 18 full teams.

Mary Rector and Maggie Saenz Ruiz led the Duhawks to the finish line. Rector took fourth place with her 22:31 and Saenz Ruiz was tenth – 27 seconds behind Rector. Kellie Wagner and Brianne Cook were slotted together closely with their 44th and 49th spots. They were three seconds apart in 24:09 and 24:12. The Duhawks' final scoring slot was Bridget Hall, who ran a 24:40 for 61st.

Following the race, head coach Bob Schultz had mixed feelings.

"I'm pleased with our fifth place finish, for sure," Schultz said, "but I know we can do much better. For as well as we ran, I know there is room for us to get better."

Next up for the Duhawks is the annual Dr. Tucker Invitational at the Dubuque Soccer Complex on October 18. The event is set to start at 4:30 PM.
