The Loras College men's soccer team is off to a 2-0 start in Iowa Conference play after wins over Dubuque and Simpson. Loras and Dubuque battled a steady rain on Saturday and the Duhawks prevailed with goals just three minutes apart. On Tuesday night, the Duhawks opened another 2-0 lead before a penalty kick for the Storm and a late header from Johnny Rummelhart

The Duhawks started league play down the street at Oyen Field and scored twice in the opening 20 minutes to put away the Spartans. A slip on a goal kick by Dubuque sent Richard Lenke in on a breakaway and he tucked it home to open the scoring in the 16th minute. Three minutes later, Kevin Cavers sent a pass to Erik Berkowitz at the back post, which the senior from Racine, Wisconsin promptly headed home.

Dylan Milkent made four saves to preserve the road shutout.

Tuesday night the Duhawks welcomed the Simpson Storm to the Rock Bowl, as the hosts looked to extend their 20 game home winning streak.

Loras took a shot about every three minutes and remained on the attacking half for much of the night. They finally broke through in the 20th minute when Richard Lenke nailed a one-touch 20-yard shot just under the crossbar for the opener. As the first half came to a close JoJo Schmidt brought the crowd to their feet with a one-timer. His outside-of-the-foot effort bent all the way into the far post and doubled the lead going into halftime.

Loras had their lead cut in half by the Storm from the penalty spot 15 minutes into the second half. Mitchell White scored his second goal from the spot in 2013. As things came to a close, the one goal lead was pushed back to two courtesy of Johnny Rummelhart. Kevin Cavers sent a corner kick to the Storm's doorstep and Rummelhart out-jumped his man to make it 3-1.

Loras improved to 2-0 in the Iowa Conference and 9-0-2 overall with the pair of wins.

Next up is a trip to Waverly, Iowa on Saturday night against Wartburg College. Kickoff is 7:30 PM.
