Top-ranked Wheaton beats Duhawks
Wed, Sep. 25, 2013 - [Women's Soccer]

#1 Wheaton, 4

#14 Loras, 1

The Loras College women's soccer team was back in action on Tuesday night in suburban Chicago – taking on the top-ranked team in Division III after a month's time.

The Duhawks took the first shot of the match, but fell behind early with the Thunder netting three goals in an eight minute stretch of the first half. The hosts scored goals in the 14th, 17th, and 21st minutes to pull away on the scoreboard. The Duhawks took three shots over the first 45 minutes but forced Wheaton's goalkeeper to make just one save.

The second half provided a much better performance by the Duhawks, who scored just over five minutes into the frame. Madeline Tennant's long-distance effort cut the Thunder's lead to 3-1 with plenty of time remaining. Loras even followed with four more shots before Wheaton took their next run at the Duhawk goal. The hosts eventually answered Tennant's tally in the 69th minute with their fourth goal from a different player on Tuesday night.

Tennant led the team with two shots on frame. Hannah Wilson made five saves.

The loss drops the Duhawks to 7-2-1 heading into the Iowa Conference opener on Saturday. The Duhawks will be down the street at University of Dubuque for a 1:00 PM kickoff.
