The Loras College women's cross country team finished seventh of 26 teams with an overall score of 181 at the Notre Dame National Catholic Invitational while competing in the college division.

With the seventh place finish, the team finished two places higher and nearly 100 points better than last year's performance.

Mary Rector was the first to reach the finish line for the Duhawks. She ran the seventh fastest 5K time in school history, 18:45. Her time gave the Duhawks their only top-10 finish as she finished 9th.

Freshman Maggie Saenz-Ruiz also posted a top-20 finish. Saenz-Ruiz was 15th in 19:05.

Brianne Cook, Kellie Wagner and Hallie Martin were 3-4-5 for the Duhawks in 19:42, 19:54 and 20:22.

Coach Schultz looks forward to building upon the success.

"We have had two very good meets so far and I believe we will only get better as the season progresses," head coach Bob Schultz says, "We will keep working hard in preparation for the end of season championships."

Rector's individual effort was enough to earn her IIAC Female Runner of the Week.

The Duhawks next event is at the Augustana Invitational on Friday, September 27th
