The Loras College men's cross country team proved once again to be the top Division III Catholic college on Friday with a second place finish at the Notre Dame National Catholic Invitational. The Duhawks compete in the college division of the invitational.

The second place finish put the Duhawks one place higher than last year. Only NAIA #3 Aquinas finished higher than the Duhawks.

Sam Whan was the first Duhawk to cross the finish line, finishing sixth in 26:08.

Steve Loran and Ty Wittman also posted top-10 finishes just behind Whan. Loran was 9th in 26:14 and Wittman was 10th in 26:15.

John Sevcik and Rob Howe were the 4-5 for the Duhawks in 26:30 (17th) and 26:44 (21st). The top five Duhawks were just 36 seconds apart.

"I am excited about how well we raced. This meet is far more reflective of what our team is capable of compared to our opener at Central," head coach Bob Schultz says, "We want to simply continue to work hard and train through these meets in preparation for the end of season contests."

Whan's efforts garnered the attention of the Iowa Conference, who named him the IIAC Male Runner of the Week for his efforts.

The Duhawks look to continue to improve at the Augustana Invitational on Friday, September 27th for their next event.
