The Loras Duhawks returned to the Rock Bowl for their first home game of the 2013 season to take on the Augustana Vikings in Saturday's Hall of Fame Game. Both teams came into the day with a 1-1 record.

The Vikings came out strong scoring the game's first 28 points. Running back Eric Chandler struck twice on 1-yard and 6-yard touchdown runs along with Brandon Price who caught a 25-yard touchdown and rushed in for a two yard score.

The Duhawks continued to battle and eventually made a change under center. Loras inserted sophomore Thomas Rose at quarterback. Rose led a 16-play, 61-yard drive leading to a Louie Oswald 31 yard field goal.

Trailing 28-3 heading into half, the Duhawks looked to settle down and get back on track. Augustana came out strong once again starting the 3rd quarter off with an 8-play, 78-yard drive capped by an 11 yard touchdown scramble from quarterback Sam Frasco.

After multiple stops on both sides, the Duhawks looked to fight back at the end of the third quarter. The Loras defensive line, led by captain Will Tumberger, caused some problems in the backfield forcing a fumble that was recovered by Chris Walker. Walker, who was only recently added to the defensive side of the ball, scored the lone Duhawk touchdown in the 35-10 loss.

Thomas Rose finished the game 6-for-12 for 70 yards in the air and added 46 yards on the ground.

Brendan Oates had two receptions for 22 yards.

Calvin Harridge led the defense with 12 solo tackles.

"Our guys are going to battle," head coach Paul Mierkiewicz told AM-1490 WDBQ after the game. "We have an excellent coaching staff and good football players. We just have to stop putting ourselves in these situations where we are chasing so many points so fast. There is not a magic answer going down 28-0, we just have to stay out of those situations."

Loras (1-2) looks to get back on track in two weeks when they start Iowa Conference action and travel to Luther. Kickoff is 1:00 PM on October 5.
