The Loras College football team opened up the season at #22 Elmhurst on Thursday night and kicked off the Division III season with their suburban Chicago contest.

The Duhawks played a strong first half against Elmhurst taking a 3-0 lead off a 30 yard field goal from Louie Oswald. Loras was able to force two fumbles including one inside the five yard line in the first half halting the Elmhurst offense from doing any major damage.

Right before halftime the Bluejays capitalized on a 17 yard run to take the lead 7-3 going into half.

Dylan Jones  was effective for most of the game through the air. Jones threw for 211 yards on 17-of-32 passing. Junior Nate Even was the go-to receiver for the Duhawks catching eight balls for 114 yards.

Defensively, Calvin Harridge posted eleven tackles (10 solo) to lead the Duhawks. Tucker Brady was able to gather eight tackles (seven solo) including one for a loss. Senior co-captain Dave Pirkle recorded seven and a half tackles (six solo) to help the Duhawks defense. Logan Kuehl and Tucker Brady were the Duhawks who recovered the fumbles.

Elmhurst was ready to play in the second half scoring twice through the air in the third quarter. Both scoring drives lasted more than five minutes and covered more than 60 yards giving them their 21-3 lead going into the fourth quarter. Loras was able to engineer a 10-play, 69-yard drive at the beginning of the fourth quarter that was topped off by a Nate Carrier 6-yard touchdown run. The Bluejays offense was able to run out the remainder of the clock and score two more times for the 35-9 victory.

The loss drops the Duhawks to 0-1. They will be playing at Rockford College at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 14th. Loras defeated Rockford 28-14 in the Rock Bowl last season.
