Cornell, 5 – Loras, 4

Augustana, 9 – Loras, 0

Loras, 9 – Millikin 0

The Loras College women's tennis team is off to a 1-2 start after Labor Day weekend. The team opened with a Friday afternoon loss to Cornell and split their Monday doubleheader with Augustana and Millikin.

In 2012, the Cornell Rams gave the Duhawks all they could handle in a 9-0 loss. In 2013, the team was noticeably better in their 5-4 loss both on the scoreboard and in terms of intensity. The Duhawks took victories in half of the single matches and one doubles match for their four wins. The Augustana Vikings controlled their matchup with Loras – with the Duhawks showing well in a pair of doubles matches. Against Millikin, it was all Loras. The team dropped just one game in doubles and won each singles match in straight sets.

Individually, Caroline Rainey and Carrie Crabill are off to 2-1 starts and Amanda Sharkey is 2-0. Crabill has been in the #3 singles slot in each of the three first matches. Rainey has appeared in both the #2 and #4 slots, winning as the #2 against Millikin and going 1-1 against Cornell (W) and Augustana (L). Sharkey went 2-0 at #6 singles with her wins at Cornell and against Millikin. Rainey and Crabill have teams to go 2-1 in the #2 doubles slot.

Loras will play their home opening events this Saturday when Simpson (9 AM) and Central (1 PM) come to the Loras College Tennis Courts.
