Loras, 1 – St. Scholastica, 0

Loras, 7 – UW-Superior, 0

The #11 Loras College Duhawks started their 2013 campaign with a pair of road wins over Labor Day weekend in northern Minnesota. The Duhawks played in and won the Advantage Emblem Cup organized by 2012 NCAA opening round opponent St. Scholastica.

Loras outshot St. Scholastica on Friday 18-5 and found the goal they needed for the win in the 68th minute. Senior Jaclyn Tumberger was open at the back post and tucked home the game-winning goal on a Shelby Perkins pass. Both came off the bench to make the difference in the season opener. Hannah Wilson was required to make one save to preserve her first shutout of the year.

The Duhawks were back on the field on Saturday to take on a UW-Superior team who had been thumped the day before by Augsburg, 10-1. Loras was a bit slow to get started, but netted seven goals in a 7-0 victory over a 30 minute stretch spanning the end of the first half and beginning of the second. Ailish Rispin opened the scoring in the 28th minute and Jill Leibforth and Kathryn Hermanas came off the bench to net goals for Loras.

The 3-0 halftime lead lasted three minutes, when Kristina Everding made it 4-0. Over the next ten minutes, Lynn DeVriese, Ailish Rispin, and Katie Truesdale also scored for the Duhawks to wrap up the scoring and seal the victory, 7-0.

The shots on goal total was 21-1 in favor of Loras. Hannah Wilson played the first 45 minutes in goal and Michelle Vonachen the second 45. Vonachen recorded the Duhawks' lone save in the 85th minute to preserve the second consecutive shutout to start the season for Loras.

Assists on the day went to Madeline Tennant, Ailish Rispin, Shelby Perkins (2), and Danielle Vujovic.

As a result of the 2-0 weekend, the two shutouts, and the combined 8-0 scoreline, the Duhawks earned the 2013 Advantage Emblem Cup trophy. Kinsey Campbell was named the tournament MVP. Ailish Ripsin, Katie Truesdale, Lynn DeVriese, and Madie Avery joined her on the All-Tournament Team.

On Wednesday, the Duhawks are in Platteville, Wisconsin to take on the Pioneers at 7:00 PM. They are in Milwaukee next weekend for the MSOE tournament.
