"They're committed to every aspect of 'team'," head coach Karl Stubben says of his 2013 squad.

"You name it; conditioning, sacrificing, working hard, team bonding, and on the court at practice – this team has shown they've committed to making us better."

The 2012 season wasn't necessarily one to remember on the courts, but it has laid the groundwork for what Stubben believes will be a much improved 2013.

Coach Stubben because he sees a deeper team who is also ahead of the 2012 squad with conditioning, and he thinks a major reason why is the role former Duhawk Rachel Weglarz filled with previous teams.

"She is one of the best leaders I've coached," Stubben declared. "The example she set for wanting to continue to develop as a player and her commitment to the team has stuck with our returners."

"I can't wait to see the mathematical gains we can make (compared to scores versus the same opponents from a year ago)," Stubben says.

Those aspirations were on display on Saturday for the season opener when the team lost a close road contest with Cornell, 5-4. A year ago the Rams were 9-0 winners over the Duhawks.

Two of the team's top three singles spots will be held by freshman (Carrie Crabill and Jessica Dickhut) to start the year, and Elizabeth Dickhut is back in the #1 spot after an 11-3 record a year ago.

Stubben also says Amanda Sharkey's busy summer on the courts has resulted in a 'most improved' title for her this August.

In addition to the regular season measuring sticks, the culmination of the team's growth will be measured by the performance at the conference tournament in October.

"Everything is in preparation for that weekend," Stubben says.
